tl;dr
TurboSquid’s VR Gallery is installed by unzipping the archive and launching the EXE file within and is explored using controls that will be familiar to most VR users. Moving about the gallery is done with teleportation (X or A button for Oculus Touch, and either thumb pad on the Vive). Smaller items can be grabbed and inspected (grip buttons on either the Touch or Vive controllers). Have fun!System Requirements
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 /AMD Radeon RX 480 equivalent or greater
- HTC Vive or Oculus Rift+Touch
- Intel Core i5-4590 equivalent or greater
- 4GB+ of RAM
- Windows 7 SP1 or greater
Setup
First time setup:
- Download the zip file to your computer and extract the contents to a local hard drive, preferably an SSD.
- Open the folder and double click to run TSVR_[artist name].exe. The application will run and automatically enter VR mode once loaded.
- Put on your headset and activate/wake up your hand controllers.
Controls
General
- Controls are mirrored, so you can use the same buttons on either hand to perform the same actions. You can also play through the entire experience with one controller if so desired.
- Virtual hands are mapped 1:1 with your physical hand controllers.
- Movement is teleportation for far distances + local roomscale walk based.
- Smaller objects are interactive and can be picked up and manipulated. Objects going out of their boundaries (usually about 5 meters) will teleport back to their starting location.
- To quit the application, take off your headset and hit the SPACEBAR or ESC keys.
Oculus Touch
Teleportation to another location is activated in one of two ways:
Simple: Press and hold the X or A button to see an arc and destination point appear. Once you let go of the button, you teleport to that point.
Complex: Press and hold either thumbstick – the same destination will appear, but if you rotate the thumbstick while holding down, you’ll have the opportunity to reorient your headset. The target orientation (the direction you will be facing once you teleport) is represented by an arrow on the target ring. Reorientation can be very useful if you are having tracking issues in a two sensor system and most of what you want to look at is physically behind you. Once you let go of the thumbstick, you teleport to the new location at the new orientation .
Grabbing: Press and hold the grip button while over an interactive object to hold onto it. If you teleport while holding onto an object, it will teleport with you, but may teleport back if you let go of it. You can also press and hold the grip button while not near an interactive object to make a fist and turn your hand into a physical object that can push interactive objects.
Material switching: Pressing B while holding an object in your right hand (or Y while holding an object in your left) will cycle between the material modes.
HTC Vive
Teleportation: You can teleport if you press and hold down on the center of either thumb pad. You will see an arc and destination point appear as you hold down. You can reorient your headset by moving your thumb to the edges of the pad while holding down. The orientation you will have when you let go is represented by an arrow on the target ring. When you lift your thumb off the pad, you will complete the action and teleport to your destination at your new orientation.
Grabbing: The controller will rumble if your hand intersects with a grabbable object. You can use either the grip/shoulder buttons or trigger on either hand to pick up and hold onto it. If you teleport while holding onto an object, it will teleport with you, but may teleport back if you let go of it. You can also press and hold either button while not near an interactive object to make a fist and turn your hand into a physical object that can push interactive objects.
Material switching: Pressing the top button above the thumb pad while holding an object in that hand will cycle between the material modes.
